Scandic Kiruna

This place exceeded all of our expectations. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Unbelievably comfortable bed. Sauna and spa so clean and the views are incredible. Fun night cap to head up to the skybar and enjoy a drink. And then the breakfast buffet was one of the best I’ve had, will be thinking and remembering about it for a long time - so many different options, all such high quality and taste! We cannot wait to return!!

So far this hotel is lacking in many ways. Number 1 we were given zero information at check in. After the person at reception checked us in and handed us our card I waited for her to tell me ANYTHING. And all she said was “ok, you’re good.” She did not tell us about the restaurant or the breakfast times, nothing about the sauna or gym… We went to our room which has no closets or dressers or drawers. We are visiting a location with subzero temperatures which means we have packed many layers and there are only 3 hangers on a stick attached to the wall to hang them on or 6 small hooks next to a mirror. We made due and created piles around the room and will apparently just live out of our suitcases. We went down to the restaurant at 6:00 for dinner on our first night only to be told that the restaurant is fully booked until after the new year, we cannot order food at the bar, and there is no room service. Does this mean they do not have enough tables to feed all the guests dinner in the hotel?? Or are they taking reservations from outside people which causes guests to eat elsewhere. I have been in this hotel for less than 4 hours and I am already beyond dissatisfied. We booked what is supposed to be a once in a lifetime trip through a travel agent and this hotel has put a big damper on things so far. I will be alerting my travel agent to all of these issues and advise that they do not use this hotel for future clients.

You always know you're in good hands when staying in a Scandic, but these newer, purpose-built properties offer quality and value for money which is so rare nowadays. The Scandic Kiruna has stylish and fully-equipped rooms, an excellent gym, large gender-separated saunas with a view, an exhaustive breakfast buffet and truly dedicated staff. It is nevertheless a large and popular hotel, so the breakfast area gets totally overcrowded at peak times (long queues, every single seat - including at the bar - taken...) and the sauna is a constant coming-and-going in the evening with the stock of towels barely able to keep up with demand. Also, if you want to eat dinner in the hotel, a reservation is advisable - it was booked up until 21:00 even during my midweek stay. All the reception, sauna and restaurant staff were noticeably personable and pro-active. When the hosts seem so in command, then obviously it much easier as a guest to relax.
